A life of faith

Eugene entered monastic life while young and later served as a deacon and priest. His work took him through Mount Athos, Sinai and several Greek communities. He directed a school at Arta and established places of learning at Karpenisi, Vrangiana and Aitoliko. At Karpenisi, he also helped build a church of the Holy Trinity. Students continued his teaching work, and his disciple Anastasius Gordios became his biographer. Eugene died at Vrangiana in 1682.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
