Saint Eutropius of Amasea
Martyr
Amasea, Pontus
Feast day: March 3

A life of faith
Eutropius remained imprisoned at Amasea with Cleonicus and Basiliscus after the martyrdom of their companion Theodore. The new governor tried to persuade the prisoners to sacrifice to the gods. Eutropius and Cleonicus refused and were crucified. The calendar distinguishes their death from the later execution of Basiliscus.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
