A life of faith

Finbarr is remembered as a monk, teacher and bishop in southern Ireland. The received life associates him with a retreat at Gougane Barra and the foundation of a monastery and school there. He later established the community at Cork and helped prepare students for church ministry. Cork grew around this religious center and continues to honor him as its patron. His exact dates remain uncertain.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Learning needs a place to grow and people willing to share knowledge. Finbarr invites patient teaching and practical care for a community.
