Saint Flavian of Constantinople
Patriarch of Constantinople
Constantinople and Ephesus
Feast day: February 16

A life of faith
Flavian became patriarch of Constantinople after Proclus. The calendar places him in the disputes involving Eutyches and Dioscorus and remembers his opposition to their teaching. It relates that he suffered violence at a council in Ephesus and died shortly afterward, before the Council of Chalcedon.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Flavian invites reflection on remaining responsible for clear teaching during a difficult dispute.
