Saint Fursey of Lagny
Monk, priest and missionary
Ireland, East Anglia and Lagny · 7th century
Feast day: January 7 or 16 (local calendar)

A life of faith
Fursey was an Irish monk and priest whose received life remembers study of Scripture and the guidance of disciples. With his brothers Ultan and Foillan and other companions, he established a monastery in East Anglia with King Sigebert’s support. He also spent time in quiet prayer. After leaving England, he founded a monastery at Lagny near Paris and built chapels there. He continued preaching and visiting monastic communities before his death during a journey.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
