A life of faith

Gabriel worked as a tailor in Tbilisi before entering monastic life in the Davit-Gareji wilderness. The received life also remembers him sharing most of his tailoring income with poor people. At the monastery of Saint John the Baptist, he compiled collections of Christian writings and wrote works explaining the liturgy and other aspects of church life. The received life also remembers his care and encouragement for the monks. He was killed while accompanying an archdeacon who had decided to return to his family. The community brought his body back to the monastery for burial.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
