Feast day: November 4

A life of faith
George was born Athanasios in Pontus and entered monastic life in Georgia. After imprisonment and suffering, he was ordained a priest and received the name George. He settled at Sipsa near Drama, where he guided people through confession and established a monastery dedicated to the Ascension. Despite lasting illness, he received the faithful daily and prayed through the night. He died on November 4, 1959.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
George continued to welcome people while living with physical limitations. Choose a sustainable way to offer attention or practical help, and leave space for prayer and rest.
