Saint George the Confessor of Mytilene
Bishop and confessor
Mytilene and Cherson · early 9th century
Feast day: April 7

A life of faith
George was born to Constantine and Irene and entered the monastic life. He later became metropolitan of Mytilene on the island of Lesbos. During the reign of Leo the Armenian, he defended the veneration of icons and suffered persecution. In 816 he was sent into exile at Cherson, where he died. He is remembered as a confessor of the faith.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
