A life of faith

George, known in Romanian as Gheorghe, came from the region of Sibiu. His monastic formation took him to Mount Athos, where he joined Paisius Velichkovsky in prayer, reading, and translating religious books. He later accepted responsibility for restoring communal monastic life at Cernica. The official life describes him clearing the overgrown site himself before a larger community formed around him. His responsibilities eventually extended to Căldărușani. George guided the monks toward mutual love, humility, and stability in their vocation. He died in 1806.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Begin a difficult shared task with a small piece of work you can do yourself. George's renewal of Cernica included clearing its neglected grounds.
