Saint Gerald of Mayo
Abbot of Mayo
Lindisfarne and Mayo · 7th–8th centuries
Feast day: March 13

A life of faith
Gerald was an English monk associated with Colman of Lindisfarne. After a mixed community settled on Inishbofin, a disagreement led the English monks to a separate foundation on the mainland at Mayo. Gerald became an abbot of that community, remembered as Mayo of the Saxons. His memory remains connected with the meeting of English and Irish monastic traditions.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Shared work needs patience when people bring different customs. Gerald invites steady care for community life.
