Saint Gerasimus of Perm
Hieromartyr and Bishop
Great Perm and Ust-Vym
Feast day: January 24

A life of faith
Gerasimus served as a bishop of the newly Christianized communities of Perm after Stephen's missionary work. The OCA remembers his concern for villages exposed to raids: he visited the camps of those responsible and urged them to stop pillaging defenseless residents. His episcopate also involved participation in wider church affairs, although the page's council chronology needs comparison. He was killed during a pastoral journey in 1441. His commemoration remembers a bishop who addressed threats to his flock directly rather than treating their safety as someone else's concern.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Consider a practical way to advocate for people exposed to harm. Gerasimus's remembered journeys place pastoral concern beside the risk and difficulty of addressing a threat.
