A life of faith

Gorgonia was the daughter of Gregory of Nazianzus and Nonna, and the sister of Gregory the Theologian. Much of her remembered life comes from her brother’s funeral oration. Married to Alypios and the mother of five children, she cultivated Christian devotion within family life. She welcomed relatives in need and strangers into her home, cared about widows, and gave generously to poor people and churches. Her brother praised the way she combined marriage, prayer, and self-restraint. Her commemoration honors the household as a setting for hospitality and a lasting example of faith.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
