Saint Gregory Kallidis of Heraclea
Bishop and pastor
Eastern Thrace, Trebizond, Ioannina and Thessaloniki · 1844–1925
Feast day: July 25; October 20 (translation of relics)

A life of faith
Gregory Kallidis was born in eastern Thrace and studied in Serres and Athens. After teaching and serving as a priest, he became a bishop and later led the dioceses of Trebizond, Thessaloniki, Ioannina and Heraclea. In Trebizond he worked to ease heavy taxation and reconcile divisions within his community. During the upheaval of 1922, he accompanied his displaced flock to Greece. He spent his final years in Thessaloniki and died in 1925. His life joins church leadership with concern for people facing conflict and displacement.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Support for displaced people begins with practical attention. Listen to a family’s needs before deciding what help to offer.
