Saint Grigorie Dascălul
Metropolitan
Neamț and Wallachia
Feast day: June 22

A life of faith
Grigorie became a monk at Neamț and translated Greek Christian writings into Romanian. As metropolitan of Wallachia, he supported schools, built churches, and helped poor families, widows, and children with food, shelter, and books. Political authorities sent him into exile, but he later returned to his ministry. Near the end of his life, he asked that the printing of saints’ lives continue.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
