Saint Gurias the Martyr
Martyr
Sargochitia · early 4th century
Feast day: November 15

A life of faith
Gurias came from Sargochitia and is remembered with Samonas. Under Diocletian, the two men were accused of urging people not to sacrifice to idols. Both were tortured and held in prison for four months without adequate food or water. Gurias was later beheaded. His commemoration joins his name with Samonas and with Abibus, a deacon who suffered in a later persecution.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
