Saint Habakkuk the Prophet
Prophet
Judah · Biblical era
Feast day: December 2

A life of faith
Habakkuk belongs to the biblical prophets remembered in Orthodox worship, and the prayer in the third chapter of his book forms the fourth biblical ode. The OCA life places him amid the upheaval surrounding Judah’s captivity and preserves a tradition of his return to his homeland. It also recalls the Greek biblical account in which an angel carries him with food to Daniel. That episode presents practical nourishment alongside prophetic prayer. Orthodox remembrance draws on both his prophetic book and this received narrative, rather than offering a complete modern biography with securely established dates for every event.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Join prayer to a practical act of nourishment. Prepare food, share a meal, or help someone whose physical needs could otherwise remain unseen.
