Saint Hermogenes of Alexandria
Bishop and martyr
Alexandria
Feast day: December 10

A life of faith
Hermogenes was sent to Alexandria to compel Menas to abandon Christianity. The traditional account remembers his astonishment at Menas’s recovery after torture and his request to share the same faith. He received baptism and was consecrated bishop. He later confessed Christ before the emperor and suffered martyrdom with Menas.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
