A life of faith

Hermylus was a deacon who suffered torture during the persecution under Licinius. His friend Stratonicus, moved by his suffering, openly confessed Christian faith and was imprisoned with him. The two continued their confession through further interrogation and were killed in the Danube. The calendar remembers the friends together while identifying Hermylus’s service as a deacon.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Hermylus’s example invites faithfulness that can encourage another person during a severe trial.
