Saint Hilary of Calypta
Martyr
Calypta near Ancyra, Galatia
Feast day: July 12

A life of faith
Hilary of Calypta was the nephew of Proclus. The received life places their suffering under Trajan and the governor Maximus. He embraced Proclus on the way to execution and publicly declared himself Christian. He was later imprisoned and beheaded. Christians buried the two martyrs together.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Consider how you can stand beside someone facing an unjust burden without making the person’s suffering about yourself.
