A life of faith

Ilarion combined parish ministry with teaching theology. At Șega in Arad, he completed the church building, supported people with material and spiritual needs, and taught through preaching and parish cultural work. Communist authorities repeatedly arrested him. Even in prison, he continued to speak about Christian faith to fellow prisoners. The calendar records his death at Aiud after medical care was withheld during illness.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Ilarion’s example invites teaching joined to practical care and faithfulness to people when circumstances become severe.
