Saint Isaac the Confessor of Constantinople
Monk and confessor
Constantinople
Feast day: May 30

A life of faith
Isaac left the desert and came to Constantinople during the reign of Valens. He asked the emperor to reopen Orthodox churches and suffered punishment for speaking. He later remained near the city, where supporters established monastic houses. Isaac guided monks and taught lay Christians.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Isaac joins the courage to speak with the patient work of teaching afterward.
