A life of faith

James entered monastic life while young and later became a bishop. During the struggle over icons, he opposed iconoclasm and lost his episcopal position. The calendar remembers repeated imprisonment and the suffering he endured before his death.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

James remained faithful through the loss of his office. Consider how your commitments can endure when a familiar role changes.
