A life of faith

James was one of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Christ. The calendar remembers his preaching among different peoples after Pentecost and his work in bringing people to Christian faith. It preserves the tradition of his death by crucifixion. He is distinct from James, the Lord’s Brother, and James, son of Zebedee.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

James’s remembrance invites reflection on sharing faith through steady teaching rather than seeking recognition.
