Saint Jesse of Tsilkani
Bishop & missionary
Georgia · 6th century
Feast day: December 2

A life of faith
Jesse arrived in Georgia with the Syrian fathers led by John of Zedazeni. On his teacher’s recommendation, he was consecrated bishop of Tsilkani. The OCA life remembers his journeys through towns, valleys, and mountain settlements, preaching and caring for sick people. A traditional miracle involving the Ksani River became an important part of local remembrance. Near the end of his life he gathered his disciples and church servants, blessed them, and received Communion. He was buried in the church at Tsilkani. His commemoration honors a pastor whose teaching remained connected to prayer and attentive service.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Consider the needs of people beyond your usual circle. Offer one dependable form of service, and remember that patient presence often matters more than dramatic gestures.
