A life of faith

Joachim lived as a hermit in the Osogovo Mountains. The received life remembers him arriving as a traveler in Gradec and asking a local nobleman to help him find a place for solitude. He settled in a cave near the Kriva River and devoted his life to prayer. Hunters later found him there and, after his death, buried him at the cave. A priest named Theodore, who became the monk Theophanes, later established a monastery at the site.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
