Saint Joel the Prophet

A life of faith

Joel is remembered among the prophets of Judah. The calendar connects his book with accounts of drought and locusts and with the promise of God’s Spirit being poured out. It recalls Peter’s use of Joel’s prophecy in the account of Pentecost.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Joel’s book invites attention to hope and responsibility during a community’s hardship.
