A life of faith

John was a Russian soldier captured during war and sold into slavery to an Ottoman officer in Prokopion. Assigned to care for livestock, he continued his Christian practice despite pressure to change his faith. The received life recalls his willingness to work faithfully while firmly refusing conversion under coercion.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

John’s life asks how faithfulness can survive a loss of control. Seek a sustainable practice and support from trustworthy people during hardship.
