A life of faith

John left his work beside the Sea of Galilee to follow Christ with his brother James. He stood at the Cross with the Mother of God and accepted responsibility for her care. The Church remembers his preaching in Asia Minor, his exile on Patmos, and the Gospel, letters, and Revelation associated with his name. His teaching repeatedly returns to love for God and neighbor. A traditional account describes the elderly apostle seeking a young man who had become a robber, refusing to give up on him. John’s witness gives love a practical, persistent form.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Choose someone who needs faithful attention rather than quick advice. Listen carefully, offer a practical kindness, and ask God to help your words and actions express the same love.
