Saint Joseph of Partoș
Bishop
Timișoara and Partoș, Banat
Feast day: September 15

A life of faith
Joseph of Partoș was known as Iacob before becoming a monk. His early monastic life took him from Ohrid to Pantocrator Monastery on Mount Athos. In 1650 he became Metropolitan of Timișoara. The official Romanian account describes visits to parishes and monasteries, restoration of churches, and schools intended to prepare clergy and educate the faithful. After a brief episcopal ministry, he retired to Partoș Monastery. He died in 1656. His relics were later transferred to Timișoara, where he is honored as a protector of the city and the Banat region.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
