Saint Jude the Apostle
Apostle & martyr
Judea, Syria & Armenia · 1st century
Feast day: June 19

A life of faith
Jude is remembered among the Twelve Apostles and as a relative of the Lord through Joseph’s family in Orthodox tradition. His life describes a movement from early unbelief to devoted discipleship, and humility about that change. He traveled to preach the Gospel in several regions beyond Judea. The short New Testament letter bearing his name urges perseverance in faith, prayer, and love, with belief expressed through good works. The Church honors him as a martyr. Jude’s example invites a faith that keeps growing instead of resting on family ties, familiar words, or an earlier decision.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Consider one belief you repeat easily. Ask how that belief changes your treatment of another person today, and choose a concrete act of prayer, mercy, or service.
