A life of faith

Justin Popović is remembered as a Serbian monk, theologian, and spiritual father whose teaching grew from a life of prayer. After his university teaching ended under the communist government, he lived in several monasteries before settling at Ćelije in 1948. There he guided the community and welcomed people seeking counsel. He translated and compiled twelve volumes of the lives of the saints, connecting theological study with the witness of actual Christian lives. Justin’s example encourages learning that serves the Church: reading and reflection become fruitful when joined to worship, personal repentance, and care for others.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Choose a short passage from a saint’s life and read slowly. Ask what the passage calls you to practice today, so that learning becomes an act of faith and love.
