Saint Justina of Antioch
Deaconess and martyr
Antioch and Nicomedia
Feast day: October 2

A life of faith
Justina heard Christian teaching from the deacon Praulius. She and her parents received baptism. The calendar remembers her refusal of an unwanted marriage and the failure of Cyprian’s attempts to turn her from her chosen life. She later served as a deaconess and suffered martyrdom with Cyprian.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Justina’s remembrance invites respect for another person’s freedom to choose a life of faith.
