Saint Justus the Soldier of Rome
Martyr
Rome
Feast day: July 14

A life of faith
Justus was a soldier serving under the tribune Claudius. After coming to Christian faith, he returned to Rome and distributed his possessions to people who were poor. Claudius tried to persuade him to abandon Christianity, but failed. Justus was sent to the official Magnentius, under whom he suffered martyrdom.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Justus connects a change of belief with a concrete change in the use of possessions.
