Saint Kirion II of Georgia
Catholicos-Patriarch and martyr
Nikozi, Alaverdi and Tbilisi, Georgia
Feast day: June 27 / July 10 (Georgian source); March 12 (OCA)

A life of faith
Kirion, born Giorgi Sadzaglishvili, was a Georgian teacher, scholar and bishop. He established libraries, collected manuscripts and gave rare material to public church collections. At Alaverdi he used his own resources to repair the cathedral. After years of reassignment and exile, he returned to Georgia as the Church restored its autocephaly. In 1917 he became Catholicos-Patriarch. He was found dead at Martqopi Monastery in 1918. The Georgian Church recognized him as a saint in 2002.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
