Saint Laurence the Fool of Kaluga
Fool for Christ
Kaluga
Feast day: August 10 (Finnish Orthodox Synaxarion)

A life of faith
Laurence lived near Kaluga around the beginning of the sixteenth century. He made his home near a church dedicated to the Nativity of Christ and prayed there at night, seeking privacy rather than attention. The Finnish Orthodox life also recounts his association with Prince Simeon and a miraculous appearance during the attack on Kaluga in 1512. Laurence died in 1515. A monastery was later established at the place where he had lived.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
