Saint Lucillian of Nicomedia
Martyr
Nicomedia and Byzantium
Feast day: June 3

A life of faith
Lucillian had served as a pagan priest in Nicomedia before receiving Christian baptism. He taught others about Christianity and refused the official Silvian’s demand to return to pagan worship. In prison he encouraged the young Christians Hypatius, Paul, Dionysius and Claudius. He later suffered martyrdom at Byzantium.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Lucillian connects a change of belief with responsibility for people who are vulnerable beside us.
