A life of faith

Macarius devoted himself to learning church chant from childhood. He studied in Odessa and Bucharest, entered monastic life on Mount Athos and translated church music. Returning to Bucharest, he became a priest and teacher. The calendar also recalls his leadership of Golgota Monastery and his work to restore its school.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Macarius used study to make worship and learning accessible to others. Consider how you can share a skill with someone who has fewer opportunities to learn.
