A life of faith

Mark devoted himself to the study of Scripture and to monastic life. The calendar identifies his surviving writings among the works read in the Philokalia. His remembrance preserves a teacher whose learning was joined to an ascetic vocation.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Mark joined the study of Scripture to a life of prayer. Choose one passage to read carefully and consider how to put its teaching into practice.
