Saint Martinian of Caesarea
Hermit
Caesarea in Palestine and Athens
Feast day: February 13

A life of faith
Martinian came from Caesarea in Palestine and entered a solitary life while young. He lived for years on a mountain outside the city. Later he withdrew to a rock in the sea, receiving provisions from a sailor. After a shipwreck brought a woman to the rock, he left and eventually settled in Athens, where he died.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Martinian invites reflection on recognizing when a change of circumstances calls for a different way of living faithfully.
