A life of faith

Martyrius was a subdeacon and a disciple of Patriarch Paul of Constantinople. After the patriarch was exiled, he and his companion were pressured to accept the opposing teaching. The calendar remembers both men refusing to abandon their faith and being killed.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Martyrius recalls the fellowship of people who face pressure to abandon a shared conviction.
