A life of faith

Mavra was baptized Maria and came from the Bistrița Valley near Ceahlău. The official life places her in the early modern period. Following an elder nun’s advice, she first learned monastic life in a community before withdrawing to solitude. The account remembers daily psalms, Scripture reading and prayer. When she returned to the skete for worship, nuns and pilgrims sought her counsel. Her precise life dates are not established in the reviewed account.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Mavra sought guidance before taking up solitude and later offered counsel to others. Consider where patient study and the advice of a trusted guide could strengthen your prayer.
