Saint Menas of Alexandria
Imperial official and martyr
Alexandria
Feast day: December 10

A life of faith
Menas was sent to Alexandria to settle unrest while keeping his Christian faith private. When the emperor learned of his faith, Hermogenes was sent to make him renounce it. Menas refused and continued his confession during imprisonment and torture. The calendar remembers his martyrdom with Hermogenes and Eugraphus.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Consider a situation in which fear makes it difficult to speak honestly about your faith. Ask for courage joined to patience and care for the people around you.
