A life of faith

Michael came from Granitsa in the Agrafa region and worked as a baker in Thessaloniki. His diocesan life remembers him giving his earnings to poor and vulnerable people. After speaking about the Christian faith, he was arrested and questioned. He continued to confess Christ and was condemned to death by burning near the Church of the Presentation of the Savior in Thessaloniki. He is commonly called Mavroudis, although another diocesan account questions that surname because of confusion with Michael Mavroeidis of Adrianople. Accounts also differ on the exact date and year of his death.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
