A life of faith

Mocius served as a priest in Amphipolis. He preached about Christ and urged people to turn away from the worship of idols. The received account also records that he overturned a pagan altar, an action followed by his death at Byzantium around 295. Before dying, he thanked God and prayed for his soul to be received in peace. A church built in his honor later held his relics.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Mocius ended his life with thanksgiving and a prayer for peace. Make room for gratitude in one difficult part of your day.
