A life of faith

Monica was a Christian woman from Tagaste and the mother of Augustine, Navigius and Perpetua. She was married to Patricius, who initially did not share her faith. The calendar recalls her persistent prayer for her husband and son and her concern as Augustine pursued teachings and choices she believed harmful.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Monica’s prayer accompanied concern for people she loved. Pray for someone without assuming you can control that person’s decisions.
