Saint Moses the God-seer
Prophet
Egypt and Sinai · Biblical era
Feast day: September 4

A life of faith
Moses was born among the Hebrews in Egypt and was raised in Pharaoh’s household after his mother placed him in a basket on the river. The burning bush on Horeb marked his calling to lead his people out of slavery. His life is inseparable from the Exodus, the passage through the Red Sea, the commandments, and the long journey through the wilderness. He died on Mount Nebo before entering the promised land. Orthodox worship preserves songs associated with him, and the Gospels show him beside Elijah at Christ’s Transfiguration. His leadership joins prayer, responsibility, and endurance.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Pray before taking responsibility for others. Choose one difficult duty that serves people who cannot repay you, and carry the duty with patience.
