Saint Myrope of Chios
Martyr
Ephesus & Chios · 3rd century
Feast day: December 2

A life of faith
Myrope was raised in Ephesus and moved with her mother to Chios during persecution. The received account describes her gathering healing myrrh for people who were ill. After Isidore was killed, she recovered his body for burial. When the guards faced execution for losing the body, Myrope identified herself so that they would not bear the blame. She was beaten and imprisoned, and died after praying in prison.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Myrope spoke up when others faced punishment for her action. Consider where accepting responsibility could protect someone from an unfair burden.
