Saint Neofit of Stânișoara
Monk and hermit
Cozia and Stânișoara · 16th–17th centuries
Feast day: September 3

A life of faith
Neofit became a monk at Cozia and spent years learning communal monastic life. With his abbot’s permission, he withdrew to a cave on Mount Sălbaticul. His solitude remained connected to the church: he came down to Turnu for confession with Daniil and for Communion. The calendar remembers his sustained prayer and the long period he spent in the mountain hermitage. His disciples’ tradition became associated with Stânișoara.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Neofit’s example invites regular prayer that remains grounded in guidance and the life of the church.
