Saint Nicander of Myra
Bishop and martyr
Myra in Lycia
Feast day: November 4

A life of faith
Nicander was bishop of Myra and a disciple of the Apostle Titus. With the priest Hermas he preached Christianity and brought people to the faith. Both men were arrested and brought before Libanius. They did not abandon their Christian faith and suffered martyrdom.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Nicander’s remembrance invites reflection on teaching faith alongside another person rather than working alone.
