A life of faith

Nicetas entered the monastery at Medikion and later became its abbot. During the icon controversy under Leo the Armenian, he defended the veneration of icons and was imprisoned. He endured years of confinement on an island in the Sea of Marmara. After release, he joined a small community near Constantinople rather than returning to his former monastery.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Nicetas’s example invites steady conviction and patience when circumstances force a change in the life you expected.
